Algorithmic gold trading: how it works
Algorithmic trading means that predefined rules decide when a trade is opened, how large it is and when it is closed. The software follows the same rules every time, even when you are tired, stressed or want to "win back" a loss.
Why gold?
Gold (XAUUSD) is one of the world's most liquid markets and trades almost around the clock, Monday to Friday. Gold tends to move inversely to real yields and the US dollar, and most liquidity comes at the London and New York opens.
What automation removes, and what it does not
Automation removes emotion from execution. It does not remove the need for discipline in oversight, position sizing and expectations. Never change settings in the middle of a trade to avoid a loss.
Risk management first
- Size follows the stop: a wider stop means a smaller position, not a bigger loss.
- Circuit breakers: a daily loss cap, a maximum number of trades per day and a pause after several losses in a row.
- No risky shortcuts: no martingale, no grid, no averaging into losing trades.
How to evaluate a system
Judge a system over hundreds of trades, not the last five. Look at the maximum drawdown and how long recovery took, and start on a demo account for a full market cycle.
How Trade Routes works
